The caravan of the 2019-20 edition of the Big Bash League has swiftly gathered steam in the past few days and it is expected to accentuate even further when the picturesque Adelaide Oval will play host to the Perth Scorchers as the home side- Adelaide Strikers- will look to notch up their first win of the tournament.

The Strikers’ opening game may have got abandoned due to the environmental issues but in the form of pulsating knocks from Jake Weatherland [42], skipper Alex Carey [45] and Jonathan Wells, who racked up an unbeaten 55 off 32 balls, will give them enough confidence, heading into their second game against the Scorchers.

It won’t be an easy task though as the Western Australia-based franchise is coming off an 11-run-win over the defending champions Melbourne Renegade. The win was set-up by an all-round batting performance thanks to whirlwind knocks from Cameron Bancroft [51 off 37 balls], Ashton Turner [36 off 26 balls] and skipper Mitchell Marsh’s 22-ball 56; an innings which included six sixes- and ably backed up by the bowling unit- led by Chris Jordan [2-30] and Fawad Ahmed [2-22].

Pitch and Conditions

The average first innings score in five T20Is played at the Adelaide Oval is 181. That should give you a fair indication as to why it is rated as one of the best batting tracks in Australia. The track gets a bit slow as the game progresses and chasing can be tough, as reflected by the stats (Average 2nd innings score- 131; 2 wins and 3 defeats for the sides’ chasing at the Adelaide Oval). Both sides will be hoping to win the toss and bat first.

Team Combination

Adelaide Strikers

Three of the five top-order batsmen of the Strikers were among the runs in the first game at Canberra. Philip Salt, who missed out in the first game will open the batting with Jake Weatherland, followed by Matthew Short, skipper Alex Carey and Jonathan Wells.

The Strikers will miss the services of Peter Siddle, who has joined the national side for the Boxing Day Test leg-spinner Liam O’Connor has been added to the squad, and it will be interesting to see whether the Strikers go for a leg-spinner or will they go in for a fast bowling option in Harry Conway.

Probable XI: Alex Carey (C & WK), Jake Weatherald, Phil Salt, Cameron White, Jonathan Wells, Matthew Short, Cameron Valente, Rashid Khan, Harry Conway/Liam O’Connor, Billy Stanlake, Wes Agar

Perth Scorchers

Just like the Strikers, Perth Scorchers’ top-order was in imperious form in their last game. Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis will open the innings followed by Cameron Bancroft [56], Ashton Turner [36] and Mitchell Marsh [56*] spearheading the middle-order.

Perth Strikers added Sam Whiteman in their squad after Matt Kelly got ruled out due to illness, but he is unlikely to get a game as the visitors will be looking to go with the playing 11 that won against Melbourne Renegades.

Probable XI: Josh Inglis (WK), Liam Livingstone, Cameron Bancroft, Mitchell Marsh (C), Ashton Turner, Cameron Green, Ashton Agar, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson,  Fawad Ahmed, Joel Paris
