The defending champions Melbourne Renegades haven’t started ideally at all in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season. They have lost all of their three matches so far rather comfortably and will have to face the Adelaide Strikers in the match 15 of the tournament on Sunday. The Docklands Stadium in Melbourne will host its first encounter of the season. This is also the first home game for the Renegades which could give them the much-needed confidence.

They won six out of seven matches at the venue last season and should repeat similar heroics again to come up from the bottom of the points table. The Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, have defeated the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars after enduring a no result to start their campaign. The previous game though was too close to comfort for them even as Peter Siddle kept his cool to deliver a brilliant last over.

The Strikers, led by Alex Carey, will be keen to carry on the momentum. Having said that, the Renegades won’t make it easy for them and would want to get on the board soon.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the Docklands Stadium hasn’t been favouring the batsmen entirely. The last season witnessed scores of around 145-155 enough to defend. The trend is most likely to continue with the pitch expected to be on the slower side. With this being the first game of the season, the teams might opt to bowl after winning the toss.

As far as the weather forecast is concerned, it is expected to be a clear and sunny day in Melbourne on Sunday. The temperatures will hover around 27-29 Degrees Celsius with no rain likely to play spoilsport.

Team Combination

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades have made two changes to their 13-man squad from the previous game. The pace bowler Joe Mennie and all-rounder Will Sutherland have been included while Jake Fraser-McGurk and Jack Wildermuth are left out. However, it will be interesting to see if the duo will get a chance in the playing XI. Mennie might replace Richard Gleeson who surprisingly bowled only a solitary over in the last game. The rest of the team is unlikely to be changed.

Probable XI: Sam Harper (WK), Aaron Finch (C), Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris, Beau Webster, Tom Cooper, Daniel Christian, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Richard Gleeson/Joe Mennie, Harry Gurney.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers have made only change adding the leg-spinner Liam O’Connor to their 13-man squad. He replaces Harry Conway who wasn’t the part of the XI which defeated the Melbourne Stars in the erstwhile game. Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle doing well keep the Strikers in good stead in the bowling department. With the bat, Jonathan Wells and the skipper Alex Carey are leading the way along with the in-form Jake Weatherald.

Probable XI: Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Matthew Short, Alex Carey (C & WK), Jonathan Wells, Cameron White, Rashid Khan, Cameron Valente, Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Billy Stanlake.

Probable Top Performers

Shaun Marsh – Melbourne Renegades | Jake Weatherald – Adelaide Strikers
