Melbourne Stars registered their 5th win from six matches in the BBL 2019-20 as they climb on the top of the points table. Their 3rd successive win left the defending champions Melbourne Renegades continue their losing streak who now have lost all the six matches in this edition of BBL.

Renegades were well placed at 117/2 in the 15th over before they lost seven wickets for 23 runs to be limited to 142/9. Marcus Stoinis anchored the chase after smashing boundaries in the powerplay as he finished unbeaten on 68 along with Glenn Maxwell (40*).

Renegades’ losing streak continues:

6* – Melbourne Renegades became only the 3rd team to lose six consecutive matches in a Big Bash League season. The Sydney Thunder lost all the eight matches in the 2012-13 season and their first six matches of the 2013-14 edition. Sydney Sixers also lost their first six matches in the 2017-18 season.


12 – Melbourne Stars have won 12 of the 17 matches in the Big Bash League against the Melbourne Renegades; the most number of wins for any team against an opponent in the BBL.


The man of Melbourne derby:

297 – Marcus Stoinis has a batting average of 297 in the Melbourne derby since the start of 2017. Across six innings in this period, Stoinis aggregated 297 runs with help of three fifties and was dismissed only once. Overall, Stoinis has 332 runs against the Renegades in the BBL at an average of 83 from 9 matches.


Finch @ 500 vs Stars:

503 – Runs Aaron Finch aggregated in the Big Bash against the Melbourne Stars; the first player with 500+ BBL runs against any opposition. Finch scored those 503 runs across 14 innings with help of a hundred and two fifties. No other player even scored 300 BBL runs against Stars.


Stoinis @ 2000:

2006 – Marcus Stoinis completed 2000 runs in Twenty20 cricket during his unbeaten fifty against Renegades. His 68-run knock is the 10th fifty by him in this format and nine of them coming for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL.


Steyn @ 250:

251Dale Steyn completed 250 wickets in the Twenty20 format with first of his two wickets in this game. He is the 3rd player from South Africa with 250 T20 wickets after Imran Tahir (355) and Alfonso Thomas (263).


9 – Steyn is only the 9th player in professional cricket with 250+ wickets in all three formats (FC / List A / T20). Except for Tahir and Steyn, all the remaining seven players in this list are from the Asian continent.
