The shimmer of BBL 2019-20 continues with another enthralling encounter as Adelaide Strikers lock horns with Melbourne Renegades in Match 33 of the tournament.

Both the teams have had a contrasting journey so far in the tournament. Melbourne Renegades have failed to live up to their expectations so far in the season. Despite being equipped with a robust squad, Renegades have failed to win a single match so far in the league. The Dan Christian-led side has suffered defeats in all eight matches of their campaign and are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table.

In their previous match against Melbourne Stars, Renegades could not defend 168 runs on the board after a sublime batting performance from Glenn Maxwell stole the match away from Renegades.

Despite strong batting performances from openers Shaun Marsh (63) and Marcus Harris (42), Renegades’ bowling force failed to spark against Stars. Samit Patel, who scalped a wicket while conceding 21 runs in his spell, was the solitary bowler for Renegades who left his mark. Dan Christian and his troops will be eager to post their first victory before the tournament reaches its pinnacle stage.

Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, are currently sitting in the top half of the points table. Strikers are currently poised fourth in the points table by registering three victories from seven matches.

In their previous match against Sydney Sixers, Strikers had to suffer a two-wicket defeat after failing to defend a total of 135 runs. Strikers’ opener Jake Weatherald smashed 47, combined with skipper Alex Carey’s 32-run knock to propel their side to a total of 135 runs. However, Strikers finished the match on the loser’s end as Sixers cruised to the total with eight balls to spare. Rashid Khan steered Strikers’ bowling unit by scalping four wickets in his spell. Strikers will be eager to register a win in order to notch up their place in the points table.

Perfect weather is on the cards with no chances of rain whatsoever. The temperature is expected to hover around 29 degrees Celcius with low levels of humidity, according to AccuWeather. In the previous two matches played at this venue, the chasing side has been triumphant.

Skipper Alex Carey has four 40+ scores in seven matches he has played so far in the season. However, Strikers will miss his services due to international duties. Strikers’ bowling unit will be steered by the likes of Peter Siddle and Rashid Khan. Sam Harper and Beau Webster have also delivered impressive performances with the bat lately.

Inconsistent bowling performances have been a prominent reason behind Renegades’ dismal form this season. Along with skipper Dan Christian, Renegades have Samit Patel, Richard Gleeson and Cameron Boyce in their bowling force. Moreover, Mohammad Nabi has also been included in the squad to bolster Renegades’ line-up.
