Brisbane Heat cruised to their 5th win of the BBL 2019-20 with a comfortable 7-wicket win against Adelaide Strikers at home. James Pattinson ran through the top-order of the Strikers who elected to bat first. Rashid Khan’s 27-ball 28 was the only score of 15+ runs for the Strikers who were bowled out 110 in 19 overs. Brisbane lost their openers early on but Matt Renshaw’s unbeaten 52 and a 32-ball 40 from AB de Villiers on his BBL debut ensured the Heat reached the target with 28 balls to spare.

All the statistical highlights from the Brisbane Heat’s big win over the Adelaide Strikers:

Brisbane Heat’s first home win against Strikers:

1 – Brisbane Heat defeated the Adelaide Strikers for the first time at the Gabba in Brisbane. The Strikers won all the four BBL matches they played at the Gabba against Heat before this game.

A record 5-wicket haul for James Pattinson:

1 – James Pattinson became the first player to dismiss opposition’s top 5 in a Big Bash League match. Four of Adelaide’s top-5 batters were caught behind while another player was caught in the covers.

2 – Pattinson is only the 2nd player to take four or more wickets in a powerplay overs of a BBL game. Samuel Badree took all his five wickets in the first five overs of the 2015-16 season game against Melbourne Stars also while playing for Brisbane Heat.

5 – The 5/33 by James Pattinson was the 5th 5-wicket haul for the Brisbane Heat out of the 13 5-fers recorded in the Big Bash till date. No other team has more than two 5-wicket hauls in the BBL.

Jimmy Pierson’s records behind the stumps:

1 – Jimmy Pierson became the first wicketkeeper in the BBL history to affect the dismissal of opposition’s top 4 batsmen in a game. Strikers’ top 4 batters were caught behind in the bowling of Pattinson only. Thus, Pierson-Pattinson pair became the first fielder-bowler combination in the Big Bash League to be part of four dismissals in a match.

5 – Number of dismissals made by Jimmy Pierson in this game; the joint-most dismissals for a wicket-keeper in BBL match. Tom Triffitt affected five dismissals in the 2012-13 season for the Perth Scorchers against Melbourne Renegades.

4 – Pierson’s four catches in this match are the joint 2nd most by a keeper in a BBL match. Tom Triffitt took five catches for Scorchers in 2012-13 against Renegades while Peter Handscomb claimed four catches for the Melbourne Stars against Hurricanes earlier this season.

Chris Lynn bags a golden duck:

6 – Number of ducks for Chris Lynn in the Big Bash League; the joint 2nd most ducks for any player in the league. Ben Duck bagged a record seven ducks in the BBL thus far while Michael Klinger, Ashton Turner and Daniel Sams also have six BBL ducks apiece.

All six ducks by Lynn came while playing for the Brisbane Heat which makes him the 2nd player after Ashton Turner (for Perth Scorchers) to bag six ducks for a team in the BBL.

The low-scoring game at the Gabba:

224 – A total of 224 runs were scored by Heat and Strikers in this match; the lowest match aggregate in an unaffected T20 hosted by the Gabba. The previous lowest was 225 runs during Preliminary Final between Queensland and Victoria during the 2008-09 Domestic T20. The BBL 2012-13 game between Heat and Scorchers aggregated only 160 runs but it was a rain-affected match.

110/10 – Strikers’ total of 110 in this match is the 2nd lowest total in Twenty20 format at the Gabba. The lowest T20 total here is 104/6 by Sydney Thunder against the home team during the 2011-12 season while chasing 196.
