Melbourne Stars cruised to their 8th consecutive win by defeating the Perth Scorchers for the 2nd time in the BBL 2019-20. Hilton Cartwright anchored the Stars’ innings with an unbeaten 58 off 56 balls. They eventually finished at 141/6 on what looked like a slow track. The Scorchers started off the chase on a good note before crumbling in the middle overs. Nic Maddinson’s bowling came as a surprise package for the hosts as the left-arm spinner took three wickets and helped the Stars to seal a 10-run win.

All the statistical highlights from the 8th consecutive win for the Melbourne Stars:

Winning streaks for the Stars:

8 – The Melbourne Stars have won all the eight matches they played since losing to the Adelaide Strikers by 5 runs at the Carrara Oval. This is now the longest winning streak for the Stars in the BBL equaling 8/8 wins during the league phase of 2013/14 season.

6 – Melbourne Stars have won each of their last six Big Bash League matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground including two wins from the last editions. This is their longest winning streak at the MCG surpassing the five successive wins between 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions.

Glenn Maxwell goes past White:

18 – The win against Scorchers was the 18th victory as captain in the Big Bash for Glenn Maxwell across 24 matches as a skipper. He is now the most successful BBL skipper for the Melbourne Stars with 18 victories and went past Cameron White’s 17 wins across 27 matches.

Hilton Cartwright’s marathon knock:

58* – Hilton Cartwright’s unbeaten 58 is the 2nd lowest unbeaten score by an opener in a BBL inning. (Full 20 overs) The lowest is Tim Ludeman’s 57* for the Adelaide Strikers against Hobart Hurricanes in 2015-16; a match that the Strikers won chasing on the last ball.

Nic Maddinson’s personal milestones:

2000 – Nic Maddinson completed 2000 runs in the Twenty20 format with the three runs he scored against Scorchers on Saturday. Maddinson aggregated only 36 runs across his last six T20 innings which includes four single-digit scores.

3/24 – Nic Maddinson finished with bowling figures of 3/24 in this match; the first instance of him picking wickets in the Twenty20 format. Maddinson bowled 30 balls in his previous 107 T20 games and conceded 44 runs without taking a wicket.

Glenn Maxwell @ 50 catches:

50 – The catch taken by Glenn Maxwell to dismiss Chris Jordan was Maxwell’s 50th catch in the BBL. He thus became the first player in the history of Big Bash League to claim 50 catches. Maxwell got to this milestone in only 67 matches. The player with next most catches in the BBL is Sean Abbott who took 43 catches in 74 BBL games thus far.
