As the journey of BBL 2019-20 is drawing close to its conclusion, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades are set to clash with each other in Match 52 of the tournament.

Melbourne Renegades have failed live up to their fans’ expectation in the ongoing season of Big Bash League. Despite being equipped with a robust squad, Renegades have registered only two wins so far in the tournament and are sitting at the bottom of the points table. Renegades had to suffer a 4-run defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in their previous match despite gathering a considerable amount of runs on the scoreboard.

Chasing a massive target of 191 runs, Renegades were propelled by impressive half-centuries by the trio of Shaun Marsh, Beau Webster and Mohammad Nabi. However, their effort wasn’t enough to steer Renegades past the finishing line as the Daniel Christian-led side could only gather 186 runs on the board. Renegades will be eager to end their dismal BBL 2019-20 campaign on a high by registering a victory against Sydney Sixers.

Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, have delivered impressive performances this season and are currently sitting second in the points table. Sixers have won eight out of 13 encounters so far this season and have gathered 17 points. In their previous match against Brisbane Heat, Sixers cruised to an easy eight-wicket victory while chasing a target of 127 runs. The opening pair of Philippe and Vince smashed half-centuries to guide Sixers to their eighth victory of the tournament. Tom Curran, Ben Dwarhuis and Jackson Bird also delivered stellar spells for Sixer and scalped two wickets each to decimate Heat’s batting attack.

Pitch and Conditions

The chasing side will have an advantage at the SCG. The pitch has been fairly decent for batting, but bowlers can extract a lot out of the surface. The previous encounter at this venue was a rain-marred match where Sixers- the team batting first- were triumphant over Melbourne Stars. However, there is a high chance of showers to intervene in the match with the temperature hovering around 26 degrees Celcius along with high levels of humidity, according to AccuWeather.

Team Combination

Sydney Sixers

The in-form duo of Josh Philippe and Daniel Hughes will also be aiming to propel Sixers to an explosive start. Steve Smith and Moises Henriques, who have tons of experience under their belt, will also be looking to provide a vital contribution for Sixers. Their bowling force will be steered by the likes of Tom Curran, Nathan Lyon and Ben Dwarshuis. Youngster Tom Curran has delivered stellar performances for Sixers this season and has picked up ten wickets in his last five matches. Dwarshuis has also scalped four wickets in his last two appearances for Sixers. Josh Hazlewood is also set to join Sixers squad post his international duties.

Predicted XI: Josh Philippe (wk), Moises Henriques (c), Steven Smith, James Vince, Steve OKeefe Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird/Josh Hazlewood, Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis

Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne Renegades are equipped with many top-order batsmen in their arsenal who can provide them with a flying start. Shaun Marsh, Sam Harper and Beau Webster have delivered impressive performances this season. However, they will miss the services of Marsh and Harper due to injuries.

Skipper Aaron Finch and paceman Kane Richardson have returned from their international duties, which will bolster Renegades squad. The all-rounder duo of Mohammad Nabi and Daniel Christian has also delivered match-winning performances. However, the bowling unit of Renegades has been inconsistent throughout the season and hence, they will be looking forward to banking on their in-form batting force.

Predicted XI: Aaron Finch (c), Beau Webster, Daniel Christian, Brayden Stepien (wk), Cameron Boyce, Will Sutherland, Jack Wildermuth, Kane Richardson, Samit Patel, Mohammad Nabi, Nathan McSweeney
