Melbourne Stars registered their 2nd straight win in the BBL 2019-20 as they thumped the Hobart Hurricanes by 52 runs. Marcus Stoinis and Nic Maddinson (40) added 80 for the first wicket in 10.1 overs. Stoinis struggled to get going after his fifty and finished with an unbeaten 81 off 54 balls as the Stars settled down with 163/4 in their 20 overs. Chasing a tricky total, the Hurricanes lost 8 wickets for just 64 runs on the board in 11 overs. The No.10 batsman Clive Rose scored an unbeaten 32 off 18 balls to take Hobart past 100. Haris Rauf starred with a 5-wicket haul as he finished with figures of 5/27 in his 4 overs.

A big defeat for the Hobart Hurricanes:

52 – The 52-run loss in this match is the 3rd biggest defeat in terms of runs for the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL. They lost to Sydney Sixers by 95 runs while chasing 187 in the 2015-16 season and recorded a 57-run defeat against Sydney Thunder chasing 167 in 2017-18.

5/27 – The 5/27 by Haris Rauf are the 2nd best bowling figures in the BBL for Melbourne Stars. Lasith Malinga took 6/7 in the 2012-13 season against Perth Scorchers are also the best ever figures in the Big Bash history.


5/27 – Haris Rauf’s figures of 5/27 are also the 2nd best by any player in the BBL against Hobart Hurricanes. Nathan Lyon’s 5/23 for Sydney Sixers in the 2015-16 season are the best bowling figures against the Hurricanes. Dwayne Bravo (5/28 for Melbourne Renegades in 2017-18) is the only other player to take a 5-fer against the Hurricanes in the BBL.

32* – Clive Rose’s unbeaten 32 is now the highest individual score in the BBL while batting at No.10 or lower position. The previous highest is 27* by Chris Tremain while batting at No.10 for the Melbourne Renegades in 2016-17 also against Stars.

Mujeeb ur Rahman also scored 27 runs before getting out in the 2018-19 season opener for Brisbane Heat against Adelaide Strikers while batting at No.11. Overall, only eight players scored more runs at No.10 position in a T20 game than Rose.


A big knock from Marcus Stoinis:

81* – Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 81 in this game is the 2nd highest individual score for the Melbourne Stars against the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL. The highest is 117 by Luke Wright in the 2011-12 season at the Bellerive Oval. Wright’s 117 is the highest BBL score for the Stars and also the highest by any player against the Hurricanes.
