Perth Scorchers grandly started 2021 as they thumped the Melbourne Renegades by a huge margin of 96 runs in their first home game of the season. Scorchers didn’t start well as they moved to 56/2 after nine overs before Colin Munro smashed a 24-ball fifty. Josh Inglis scored an unbeaten 41-ball 72 to aid the home team on their way to 185/3. Renegades, in the big chase, lost at least one wicket in seven of first nine overs. Despite being 59/8 by 9th over, the Renegades managed to earn bash boost point but eventually got bowled out for 89.

Scorchers get the better of Renegades yet again:

11 – Perth Scorchers now have defeated Melbourne Renegades in the BBL across 14 meetings. These are now the joint 2nd most number of wins for any team against an opponent. Melbourne Stars leads the list with as many as 13 victories against Melbourne Renegades.

Hobart Hurricanes also won 11 matches in the league against Brisbane Heat while Sydney Sixers also registered 11 wins over Renegades including a Super Over victory.


A big win for the Scorchers:

96 – The 96-run win for the Perth Scorchers during the SCO vs REN game is now their 2nd biggest in the BBL behind the 98-run victory over the Adelaide Strikers during the 2012-13 season. Overall, the margin of 96 runs is the 6th biggest win in terms of runs for any team in the BBL and five of them coming against the Renegades only.


Yet another low total for the Renegades:

5 – Melbourne Renegades now have been bowled out for a total under 100 runs on five occasions in the Big Bash League. Adelaide Strikers (6) and Perth Scorchers (5) are the other sides who have been bowled out under 100 on five or more instances in the BBL.

89/10 – Melbourne Renegades’ total of 89 is now the 2nd lowest total in the BBL for any team against Perth Scorchers. The lowest BBL total for any side against the Scorchers is 88/10 by Adelaide Strikers in 2018-19 season.


Munro’s first fifty on Australian soil:

1 – The 52-run knock on Sunday was maiden fifty in the Twenty20 format for Colin Munro on Australian soil who scored just 115 runs from the previous nine T20s in this country. Australia is the 9th nation where Munro scored a fifty in the Twenty20 format thus far (NZ, ENG, WI, IND, USA, UAE, PAK and BAN are the other eight countries).

  


Jhye @ 50 wickets:

50 – Jhye Richardson completed 50 wickets in the BBL when he dismissed Sam Harper on the 2nd ball of the Renegades’ innings. Richardson is now the 3rd player with 50+ BBL wickets for Perth Scorchers after Andrew Tye (74) and Jason Behrendorff (56).


A big stand to Scorchers’ rescue:

117 – The partnership of 117 between Josh Inglis and Colin Munro is now the 2nd highest partnership of Perth Scorchers in the BBL for the 3rd wicket. The highest is 129 between Sam Whiteman and Simon Katich against Sydney Sixers in the 2013-14 season.
