Hobart Hurricanes finished home games with a close defeat in the hands of Melbourne Stars who ended their 4-match winless streak. Marcus Stoinis dominated the Hurricanes’ bowling attack scoring as unbeaten 97 from 55 balls with seven fours and seven maximums. His batting brilliance helped the Stars to post 183/6 despite losing three wickets for 49 runs in 7.2 overs. Hurricanes moved to 60/1 by halfway stage in the chase before opener Ben McDermott (91 off 58) smashed the bowling unit of the Stars all over the park. His dismissal in the penultimate over put the equation out of Hurricanes’ reach.

Hurricanes’ milestone match:

100 – The Monday’s fixture against Stars was the 100th appearance in the Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes. They are now the 4th side to feature in as many as 100 matches in this league. Hurricanes have exactly won 49 matches and lost 49 games while two other games ended without a result.

10 – Melbourne Stars are the first team in the BBL to defeat Hobart Hurricanes as many as ten times. Stars got the better of Hurricanes in ten of the 15 meetings in the BBL till date. Hurricanes are the 2nd opponent which the Stars defeated on ten or more occasions as they won a total of 13 BBL games against the Melbourne Renegades.


A game of 90s:

2 – Marcus Stoinis (97*) and Ben McDermott (91) recorded only the 2nd instance of two players with the scores of 90s in the same BBL match. Mike Hussey and Jacques Kallis made 96 and 97* respectively for Sydney Thunder against Brisbane Heat in the 2014-15 season.

Overall, the HUR vs STA match is only he 3rd in the BBL where two players scored 90+ runs as the 2018-19 season game between Scorchers and Thunder witnessed Shaun Marsh and Callum Ferguson scored 96* and 113* respectively.


Stoinis only behind D’Arcy:

3 – Marcus Stoinis has scored more than 90 runs in a BBL match on as many as three occasions. Only D’Arcy Short (5) has more 90+ scores than Stoinis while Chris Lynn also has three such knocks. The 91 by Ben McDermott was his 2nd 90+ score in BBL making him one of the ten players with multiple 90+ scores.

Overall, Stoinis is the 4th player after D’Arcy Short (3), Glenn Maxwell (2) and Shaun Marsh (2) with multiple scores in the 90s in the BBL. The all-rounder was dismissed for 99 in the 2017-18 season against Brisbane Heat.

  


Malan @ 6000 runs:

212 – Dawid Malan became the 7th player from England to complete 6000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he went past his individual score of 26 during the HUR vs STA match. He is now the fastest England cricketer to surpass 6000-run mark in T20 cricket and overall the joint 10th quickest as he got to the milestone in only 212 innings. The previous fastest player from England to complete 6000 T20 runs was Alex Hales in 218 innings.


Milestones for the Stars:

3078 – Marcus Stoinis completed 3000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he went past his individual score of 19 runs. Stoinis (2026) also went past 2000 T20 runs on Australian soil during his unbeaten 97-run knock against the Hurricanes.

50 – The Monday’s fixture in Hobart was the 50th appearance in the BBL for Adam Zampa while representing the Melbourne Stars. He is now the 5th player to feature in as many as 50 BBL game for the Stars.
