Afghanistan spin maestro Rashid Khan has extended his Big Bash League contract with the Adelaide Strikers for the next season. The 23-year-old leg spinner joined the franchise in the 2017-18 season and since then, he has been a regular feature in their team. He has been highly successful as well which has made the team stick with him.

The Afghanistan player is currently playing in the Indian Premier League, where he is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad for the fifth straight season. After re-signing with the Strikers, Khan expressed his love for the city of Adelaide. He also spoke about the fans who have come to watch him and his team in the past, every year at the Adelaide Oval, one of the most beautiful stadiums in Australia.

I won’t leave this club. I love Adelaide, the fans, the team, everyone: Rashid Khan

“I won’t leave this club. I love Adelaide, the fans, the team, everyone. It is a great honor for me to be here playing for the Strikers. I love playing in front of the beautiful crowd at Adelaide Oval, it is one of my favorite grounds in the world, especially New Year. That is a night I always have in my mind; I always want to play that night,” said Rashid in an official release.

Khan has celebrated some really good performances at the home ground of Strikers. This includes his hat-trick which he took against Sydney Sixers in the 2020-21 season. “There is so much love from the crowd. Not only during games but always when I am in Adelaide. The fans give me so much love and respect and I try to give my best performance to bring smiles to their faces,” he added.

Khan has impressed in each and every T20 league he has played so far, but his performances for Strikers have been quite extraordinary. He has played 50 matches for Strikers, picking up 72 wickets with an average of 17.46. His strike rate with the ball has been 16.19, while his economy of 6.47 after so many matches, looks freakish.

He has played some crucial knocks with the bat as well in the lower order. He has scored 314 runs with a strike rate of 155.45. More than the numbers that he produces, it is his stardom as a top player in the world, which makes Strikers’ job easy to build their team around someone like him.
