The ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) has had many action-packed moments on the field and lately, there was a moment of madness outside the boundary rope that not only went viral but also enthralled one and all. The moment came during the Qualifier between the defending champions Sydney Sixers and last year’s runners-up Perth Scorchers at Marvel Stadium in Perth on Saturday.

It so happened that a young fan, supposedly a ball boy, attempted an outstanding catch outside the boundary only to be left red-faced. The fan made his presence felt during Perth Scorchers’ run chase. With the asking rate getting steeper, senior middle-order batter Daniel Christian decided to go big and took Ashton Agar to the cleaners, and the ball landed just inside the fence with the young fan making a tremendous impact with his acrobatics to land the catch.

Young fan roasted by mates and commentators after misjudging the chance

While the fan did give more than his 100% , he did not get the desired result as he grassed the ball and his mates had the laughter of their lives with one of them even throwing a bucket at him.  Even the commentators had a hearty laugh at the fan’s expense.

“What a strike and oh he desperately wanted to get in the Maccas classic catches. The desperation. He got over the fence. It wasn’t even the fall-over leaning. Oh what a feeling indeed”, said Adam Gilchrist while commentating on Fox Cricket.

“He had to wear a bucket from his mate as well,” said Michael Vaughan as the commentary box was left in splits.

Coming back to the contest, a 120-run opening stand from wicketkeeper batter Josh Inglis (79)n and Kurtis Patterson (64) propelled the Scorchers to a stiff total of 189/3 from their 20 overs. In reply, the title-holders never found momentum, and despite a quickfire 29-ball 66 from Ben Dwarshuis, no one else could offer any resistance, and the Sixers were bundled out for 141 in the final over.

Perth Scorchers registered an emphatic 48-run victory to seal a consecutive final berth.
