BBL 2021-22: Jhye Richardson cops blow during title-winning celebrations, gives interview with bleeding nose

Perth Scorchers got their hands on their fourth Big Bash League (BBL) title as they thrashed defending champions Sydney Sixers by 79 runs in the final clash on Friday (January 28). It was indeed a convincing win for the Scorchers as the Men in Magenta never really looked in the hunt. Chasing a challenging 172 at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne, the second-stringed Sixers side got skittled out for a paltry 92 in 16.2 overs.

Scorchers now have most BBL titles and needless to mention, the players were ecstatic after getting the glory. Well, the celebrations were so wild that Jhye Richardson copped a blow on the nose. Subsequently, his nose and mouth were bleeding. However, the pacer couldn’t have cared less as he was all smiles while giving interview after the game.

“It’s always interesting. Copped one on the nose from one of the shoulders,” said a smiling Richardson after the game. The video of the same went viral in no time as fans hailed Richardson’s ecstasy despite a serious-looking injury.  Meanwhile, Richardson was one of Perth’s stand-out performer in the final clash as he gave away just 20 runs in 3.2 overs alongside taking a couple of wickets.

Speaking of how the final clash panned out, the Scorchers posted a mammoth 171/6 on board after being asked to bat first. Notably, the side was reeling at 25/4 at one stage. However, half-centuries from Laurie Evans and skipper Aston Turner helped the side post a potent total on the board.

Sydney never really looked in the hunt while chasing as they suffered a batting collapse. While Daniel Hughes did score a valiant 55, he didn’t get any support from the other hand. Hence, the Scorchers walked away with a rather convincing win.

Needless to mention, Turner was a happy captain as he lavished praises on his teammates. “I think any captain would stand here and talk about the obstacles we have had to come through to finish this tournament. The Sixers have been the best side for the last two years,” said Turner after the match.

“They taught us how to play on these wickets. Well done for the way you have played before for your performance this season. Couldn’t be more proud of everyone’s effort – the support staff, the families. We are fortunate to have got this tournament done,” he added.
