The Covid-19 pandemic has once again proven to be a roadblock in the cricketing world. The Big Bash League (BBL) encounter between the Melbourne Stars and the Perth Scorchers that was scheduled to take place on 30th December 2021 has been postponed.

A coaching staff from the Melbourne Stars camp tested positive for Covid-19. All players also underwent RT PCR tests as well. This match will be rescheduled to a later date. Also, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was slated to feature in the playing XI for the Melbourne Stars side in this clash.

Postponement was the only option available: BBL General Manager

Alastair Dobson, the General Manager of the Big Bash League (BBL) said that the organizers were left with no option but to postpone the contest between the Melbourne Stars and the Perth Scorchers. Dobson concluded by stating that the decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of the participants.

“While regrettable, the decision to postpone tonight’s match was the only option available given the exposures within the Stars cohort. The league has a number of biosecurity protocols in place to keep our participants safe and the competition moving forward,” said Dobson as quoted by cricket.com.au

The Perth Scorchers side has been unstoppable in the 2021-22 Big Bash League (BBL). The Scorchers have won 6 out of the 7 matches that they have played in the tournament, and are sitting comfortably at the second spot in the points table.

In their previous rubber, the Perth Scorchers were beaten by the Sydney Thunder side by 34 runs.  On the other hand, the Melbourne Stars are stationed at the 6th spot in the table, having emerged victorious in 3 out of their 6 rubbers. In their previous encounter, the Melbourne Stars beat the Brisbane Heat side by 20 runs.
