Fair play is important in the sport of cricket. In the Big Bash League (BBL) encounter between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars, Tim David caught the spotlight for trying to get back on strike, albeit using unfair means.
Off the 5th ball of the 20th over of the Hobart Hurricanes’ innings that was bowled by Brody Couch, Tim David hit the ball to Long On and ran a couple. However, in a bid to retain strike, David deliberately did not ground the bat at the non-striker’s end, and was way short of the popping crease.
And, the umpires sprang into action and awarded a 5-run penalty to the Hurricanes. Furthermore, even the two runs taken were also not awarded to the Hobart Hurricanes due to Tim David’s conduct.

Hobart Hurricanes post a total of 180/6 on the board
Batting first, the Hobart Hurricanes posted a total of 180/6 on the board. Ben McDermott played a superb innings for the Hurricanes and scored a quickfire 43-ball 67. Apart from McDermott, skipper Matthew Wade also contributed a handy 39 as well. Tim David provided the final flourish with a whirlwind 22* in the final overs.
Even though he was on the expensive side, Andre Russell scalped 3 wickets for the Melbourne Stars outfit with the ball in hand. In reply, the Melbourne Stars’ scorecard reads 65/2 after 9 overs, and they still need 116 runs to overhaul the target.
Both Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars have experienced a poor outing in the Big Bash League (BBL) this year. While the Melbourne Stars are occupying the 6th position, the Hurricanes are stationed at the 7th spot.
