All-rounder Daniel Sams plucked one out of the air to dismiss Alex Carey in the Big Bash League playoff match between Sydney Thunder and the Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Alex Carey, who opened the innings, connected one straight into the deep mid-wicket area and Sams had to run two steps in the backward direction. The catch was very important in the context of the innings, as the Adelaide Strikers got off to a bright start.
Despite Carey’s dismissal, Matthew Short and Ian Cockbain carried the momentum and the latter in particular clattered three sixes in his innings. Once these two batters were gone, the Adelaide Strikers could not get going much and had to settle for a decent score of 184 in 20 overs. Tanveer Sangha proved to be the best bowler from the Sydney Thunder, picking up two wickets and conceding just 15 runs in his four-over spell.

Despite taking a stunning catch, Sams reacted in a very composed manner and showed his frustration for dropping a catch earlier. The left-arm seamer had no time to run and he had to fly in the air to make sure that he got two hands to the catch towards his left side. Tanveer Sangha, the leg spinner was left much impressed with the catch as well and it was a moment to cherish for Sams.
“Don’t let his subdued reaction fool you. Daniel Sams makes up for his earlier drop with a hanger in the deep! A BKT Golden Moment | #BBL11″ a popular page on Twitter had posted a video of the catch

The Sydney Thunder fell short by just 6 runs, in the end to lose the game despite Jason Sangha and Alex Ross’s half-centuries. Ben Cutting did keep his side by hitting three boundaries but once, he was gone, it looked like curtains for the Usman Khawaja led side. Peter Siddle and Harry Conway both picked up two wickets each for the Adelaide Strikers and kept the pressure of the required rate as well.
