Perth Scorchers turned out to be too good for the Brisbane Heat, as the former side wrapped up the game without breaking a sweat.
The day started on a bright note as Chris Lynn won the toss for Brisbane Heat and decided to bat first. The decision backfired in the very first over, as Jason Behrendorff’s second ball resulted in a wicket, with Lendl Simmons edging one back to the keeper. Skipper, Chris Lynn was right on the money, swinging his bat to Willey for a six over mid-wicket and then picking the length early from Andrew Tye to guide another one over in the same region. Perth Scorchers kept the run rate under
Perth Scorchers kept the run rate under check, but odd boundaries ensured a steady flow of runs. Peter Forrest and Reardon went back in consecutive overs, and Perth did face a little heat at 67/4. Lynn was in no mood to surrender, bringing up his fifty from just 37 balls. He got underneath of the loose ones and deposited them to the fence in fashion.
Brisbane kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Lynn ensured they were never short on run-rate. He ended up unbeaten on 75, as Tye bowled a spectacular last over, giving away only six runs. The Heat’s finished on 117/7 in 20 overs, and Tye was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs.
Chasing a modest 118 to win, Perth Scorchers couldn’t have asked for a better start. Harris was at his best, whacking two sixes and a boundary off Steketee and smacking a couple of fours off Fekete. The duo reached 48 runs in just over 5 overs, as the scoreboard read 78 more runs to win with 14 overs in hand. Harris miscued a pull shot and Lynn did well to hang on to it. His 22-ball 36 laid the foundation for the Scorchers, but the match was not over yet.
Brisbane failed to make inroads, and it was Klinger who was causing the damage. He plundered four boundaries and a huge six to notch up a fifty from just 39 balls; and he was supported well by Ashton Agar, who played a second fiddle. The game was over with 30 balls to spare, as Scorchers clinched a comfortable victory, thanks to some fine bowling and later some strokeful display of batting. Klinger was unbeaten on 53, as Perth picked up 2 points.
