After suffering a big defeat against the Adelaide Strikers on the New Year eve, Brisbane Heat bounced back with a thumping win against the Melbourne Stars who are yet to open their points tally. The leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson (3/14) and Yasir Shah (1/16) made the things tough for the home side who crawled to 141/7 if not for a 39-ball fifty from Glenn Maxwell. Brendon McCullum raced to a 30-ball 61 with seven fours and three sixes to guide his team to a comfortable win. His opening partner Chris Lynn remained unbeaten on 63 off 46 balls after struggling in the initial part of the innings.

All the stats and numbers that were created during Brisbane Heat’s dominant win:

2 – Only the 2nd time Chris Lynn opened in a BBL game in his career. He scored 4 off 7 balls while opening for Brisbane against the Perth Scorchers in the inaugural BBL season.

9 – This was Brisbane Heat’s 2nd 9-wicket win in the BBL. They defeated Perth Scorchers in the last season by the same margin while chasing 174. This was also the 2nd time when Melbourne Stars lost in the BBL by a 9-wicket margin. Melbourne Renegades chased down the 147-run target for the loss of one wicket against the Stars in 2012/13.

38Glenn Maxwell registered his slowest fifty in the Twenty20 format that came off 38 balls. Maxwell’s fifty in this game was his 20th fifty-plus score in T20s with the 36-ball fifty against Sydney Sixers in 2015/16 being the slowest among his previous 19.

40 – Chirs Lynn’s 40-ball fifty is his joint slowest fifty among his 21st fifty-plus scores in the Twenty20 cricket. Lynn’s maiden T20 fifty in the SLPL 2012 (For Kandurata Warriors vs Wayamba United) also came off 40 balls. Lynn’s previous slowest fifty in the BBL was off 38 balls against Perth Scorchers in the 2013/14 season.
