The reigning champions Perth Scorchers will play an away game against the struggling Sydney Thunder in the 25th match of Big Bash League (BBL) season 7 tomorrow. The Scorchers are defending their title in style as they have won 5 out of their first 6 games so far and are comfortably placed at no. 2 in the points table with 10 points. The Thunder, on the other hand, have not been able to find that kind of consistency as they have suffered 4 losses in the same number of games as Scorchers are currently in the bottom half of the table.

If the Thunder have to present their case strongly for the knockouts, they need a streak of victories from here on and to secure a victory against the Scorchers, they will have to play some high-quality cricket as the Scorchers are a mighty strong unit in all three facets of the game. The only thing that the Scorchers will have to be careful of is that they don’t get too complacent having already been in such a great position in the tournament.

Here’s what we, at CricTracker predict will be the final result-

Scenario 1: Perth Scorchers win the toss

Toss Prediction: Scorchers decide to bat first

First Innings Prediction: 170-180

Result Prediction: Perth Scorchers win by 25 runs

Scenario 2: Sydney Thunder win the toss

Toss Prediction: Thunder opt to bat first

First Innings Prediction: 145-155

Result Prediction: Perth Scorchers win by 5 wickets

Head to Head Record

Total Matches Played – 6, Perth Scorchers won – 5, Sydney Thunder won – 1, No Result/Tied – 1

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder’s problem is lack of strike force in the batting. Whatever little power they have, they possess it right at the top of the order in the form of Shane Watson and Jos Buttler. Once the opposition manages to remove them cheaply, there is nobody else in the middle order who can get stuck in the bowling and play those big shots.

They had a rather mediocre total to chase in the last game against the Strikers and they couldn’t get the job done as neither Buttler nor Watson batted big. They are over-dependent on the two players which is never a good sign for any team.

Predicted XI: Jos Buttler, Kurtis Patterson, Shane Watson, Callum Ferguson, Ben Rohrer, Arjun Nair, Aiden Blizzard, Clive Green, Mitchell McClenaghan, Fawad Ahmed, Andrew Fekete

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers have had different players doing the job for them in different matches. While the bowlers have been absolutely superb right through, when they had a bit of an off day in the last game against the Renegades, the batsmen made sure that they still ended up on the winning side as they successfully chased down the huge target of 186. Ashton Turner turned out to be the star as he smashed 70 off just 32 balls to see his team home.

Predicted XI: William Bosisto, Micheal Klinger, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Turner, Adam Voges, Ashton Agar, David Willey, Josh Inglis (wk), Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Mitchell Johnson

We believe the Perth Scorchers will emerge victorious against the Sydney Thunder.
