The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is visibly unhappy with the professionalism, or rather the lack of it, that Mustafizur Rahman has shown in the last few days. The young pace bowler was a part of the Mumbai Indians camp in the 2018 edition of the IPL. In the final days of the league stages of the season, he sustained a toe injury. The pacer apparently did not inform the concerned members of the BCB about the same right away.

He disclosed the news to them five days before the national side was set to leave for their upcoming international assignment. Bangladesh is set to play Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in Dehradun. Initially, Mustafizur Rahman was named in the squad for the series. Recently, he had to pull out of the series after the news of his toe injury broke out in the media. The BCB has announced a last-minute replacement for him.

The BCB officials are very disappointed with the entire episode. With such things coming to the fore, the board is now mulling some serious restrictions on their players in regard to the participation in the T20 leagues.

“This sort of thing really hampers the morale of the team. He is an important player. I have now spoken to him in the presence of the BCB doctors and selectors. I will report my findings to the board directors. We should discuss what to do with our players in these franchise leagues. I think it is time we get serious about it,” Akram Khan, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, quoted as per the reports in ESPNcricinfo.

“When he returned from India, he told the physio that he got hurt. We also saw it on TV that he hurt his toe playing in his last game in the IPL, but he didn’t make it clear to the physio the gravity of the injury; how bad the pain was,” he added further.

Last moment exit

The official further revealed that Mustafizur returned home and also played a practice match. But he informed about his injuries at the last moment, following which the scans were done. The scans revealed that he had sustained a toe fracture.

“He played the practice match, and then was given two days off because we thought it would help him recover. Then on the evening before the departure, he informed that he has severe pain, and then we had to do the scans which revealed a fracture,” Akram revealed.
