BCCI announces annual contracts for 2017-18 season

The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) today announced the Annual Player Contracts for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI). Contracts for the India men’s team, Women’s team as well as for the players at the domestic level were revised by the CoA. A new grade in the contract structure, as well as a change in the retainership fees, were the major changes.
A BCCI press release stated that the committee wants the players to be rewarded at par with their contribution. The Indian team is at the top of the ICC ODI and Test rankings and the women’s team has been scaling new highs since their inspired run in the Women’s World Cup 2016. Thus they wanted the pay to be higher when compared to any other team.
“The CoA was of the view that the performance and position of Indian Cricket needs to be recognised with the fee structure comparable to the best in the world,” the board stated.
In a major change, the BCCI has introduced the A+ category that will be awarded to players who represent the team in all three formats. Similarly, Grade C has been introduced for women cricketers.
There is also a big boost to the domestic cricketers as the fees has been hiked 200 percent in each category.
