BCCI Apex Council meeting on July 17: IPL to be topmost on the agenda

BCCI Apex Council is scheduled for a virtual meeting on Friday. Among the various agendas, the matter of utmost concern would be the Indian Premier League. While the BCCI had made it clear they would try to host it in India it does not seem like the current circumstances would permit that to happen.

A BCCI official had earlier revealed that they would’ve loved to host it in Mumbai if possible however Mumbai is among the worst-hit areas in India. Other venues being considered are Sri Lanka and UAE however that would lead to incurring massive overhead costs. The BCCI has also narrowed down on the September – November window and is awaiting ICC’s formal announcement on the T20 World Cup cancellation.

Two of the other most important agendas are the domestic calendar and the future tours of the men’s cricket team. India last played a match in March and fans are awaiting the next possible series. The domestic season will definitely have to be curtailed due to the loss in time. Various domestic tournaments and International tours have been cancelled in the last few months.

There are many other issues like the tax exemption regarding the T20 World Cup scheduled in 2021. The tax exemption certificate is mandatory in order to host the T20 World Cup. BCCI has time till November to get the required clearances from the Central Government. BCCI is also trying to convert the Test match series into white-ball series in order to generate maximum revenues.

While these agendas would take top priority there are numerous other agendas to be discussed. The fans would also be looking forward to this meeting in order to get more clarity about the future of Indian cricket.
