BCCI applauds MS Dhoni for winning Padma Bhushan award

The former Indian captain MS Dhoni, on Thursday, was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Indian Government. It is one of the highest civilian awards of the country and recognises the people for rendering its services to the country in different traits. MS Dhoni has been one of the favourite sons of India as he led the national side in the game of cricket for almost 10 years. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has wished the veteran after winning the award.

Dhoni was nominated by the Indian board for the special honour and the acting president for the Board, CK Khanna, had then termed it as the unanimous choice when it came down to the brilliant services for the nation. Dhoni has become the 11th cricketer overall now to be honoured with Padma Bhushan award.

BCCI tweets for Mahi

The official Twitter handle of BCCI had a special message for MS Dhoni after the Indian Government honoured him with the prestigious award. The tweet was a congratulatory one which read, “Congratulations to #TeamIndia’s @msdhoni on being conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan. ” The 36-year-old has won all the possible trophies for India in the limited overs format while leading the side. He was also at the helm when Team India climbed to the number 1 Test rankings for the first time ever.

While he took the retirement from the longest format of the game in 2014, Dhoni relinquished from captaincy in January last year and handed over the baton to Virat Kohli. Though he has been a vital cog of the side ever since giving his invaluable inputs to the young spinners from behind the stumps. Even Kohli is also seen taking the advice from Mahi during the crunch moments in the games.

Currently, Dhoni is in South Africa looking forward to the six-match ODI series commencing on February 1 and will also take part in the three-match T20I series which follows.
