BCCI appoints new team manager for WI tour but CoA questions it

The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators wants that the Indian team manager’s post become a contractual job – with a minimum term of two years.  But the BCCI still wants to continue its rotational policy of appointing the team manager on a tour-to-tour basis. But CoA wants to end this policy and appoint a paid manager till the 2019 World Cup.

Sources have revealed that the board officials have appointed Milind Kanmadikar (from Madhya Pradesh CA) as the team manager for the series in the West Indies to be played right after the Champions Trophy. But the CoA is against this as it does not understand the need to rotate team managers for different series. This issue is likely to be brought up at its next meeting on Monday.

“The manager’s job is not only to spend time in the changing room. His job is to ensure that a proper process is followed while picking a team or managing any sort of disagreement in the dressing room. The board appointed managers have failed to live up to the expectation,” a top board functionary told TOI on Friday.

Indian team happy with current manager 

As per further sources, the Indian team is pleased with the current manager Kapil Malhotra, who was the manager of the team seven months earlier, and he also played a role in team selection. “It’s not about an individual and what the team wants. It’s also about managing the job with a proper contract. If there are any issues in the team, manager has a big role in sorting out the issues inside the dressing room,” the source added.

For now, the biggest buzz in the BCCI is the appointment of the new head coach for the team, but in all likeliness, Anil Kumble will retain his post.
