The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opposed the decision of ICC to stage the final of World Championship at Lord’s. International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the Test Championship which will be contested between the top nine nations and is scheduled to commence post the conclusion of 2019 Cricket World Cup. The ODI league was also set up in order to bring more context to the bilateral series in the future.

The schedule of both the leagues is yet to be finalised as ICC is mulling over the details and is expected to be decided over the next few weeks. However, the debate is now with the venue for the mega finale of the Test Championship. BCCI has strongly opposed the stand of the World Governing body to stage the decider at the home of Cricket in London. But the Indian board believes that there will be no point playing in England if two Asian teams make it to the final.

Venue for the final will be discussed

As per the reports in India Today, the Indian representative at the ICC meet argued with the venue for the final of the marquee event. “The Indian representative at the ICC meet argued, there could be two Asian sides competing in the final. It could even be India-Bangladesh. They may want to play the match at Eden Gardens, in that case,” the source who attended the meeting told India Today. Also, keeping in mind the opposition from the richest board in the world, ICC has decided not to close the matter and deliberate over it in the coming days.

The Test finale in 2021 which will be played to decide the best Test team in the world will have the same kind of importance as the final of the 50 overs World Cup and World T20.
