BCCI and Jaipur police unearth fixing scandal in Rajasthan's RCL

The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) that is already struggling for its membership status with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has more troubles as a Twenty20 league played under its purview has come under the scanner for corruption. The Jaipur police in a joint operation with the Anti-Corruption Unit of the (ACU) of the BCCI have made several arrests for fixing matches in the Rajputana Cricket League (RCL).

The tournament features six teams- Jaipur Tigers, Udai Bhilwara Wolves, Sikar Bulls, Jodhpur Lions, Udaipur Eagles and Ajmer Panthers and is telecast live. After unearthing the scandal Jaipur police also lined up some of the biggest names in Rajasthan cricket along with other suspects some of who also are a part of the broadcasters for interrogation. They have already made 20 arrests in the case which includes bookies and players.

Kingpins on the radar

It came to light when the BCCI and the ACU filed an FIR with the Jaipur police who acted swiftly on their feet and arrested the bookies. As per reports Wazir Khan and Bahare Khan the kingpins of the scandal and are on the radar of the ACU.

Along with that two bookies were also arrested from Punjab and the national capital who have a record for similar involvements in other tournaments played in Nepal, Noida and Rajawada. The cops also recovered more than Rs 37 lakh in cash along with 20 mobiles.

RCA allowed the affiliation to the tournament after a former Rajasthan skipper’s Academy sought permission. MumbaiMirror reported that the player agreed there was negligence in the matters of corruption and acting upon it has withdrawn the participants from his Academy who were a part of the tournament as he was also a recipient of a letter from the Indian board.

ACU chief, former Delhi Commissioner Neeraj Kumar was quoted by Mirror as saying, “We were keeping a watch on these two men and finally we have managed to zero in on them in the tournament.”
