Unlike yesteryears, a professional cricketer of modern times has to take care of a whole lot of things except cricket. With the different franchise based T20 leagues around, one has to meticulously manage his time and money. Then, there is the fitness factor which holds a lot of value in the cricket that is being played today. Keeping all of these in mind, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has launched a handbook for the professional players.

The book launched by BCCI is titled ‘100 things every professional cricketer must know’. It was launched by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) today (September 8) and in accordance with the suggestions of the Lodha Panel. Former Indian cricket Rahul Dravid has written the foreword of the book. It has 10 sections covering important aspects like correct diet, injury management, the importance of fitness in the modern era of cricket, handling overwhelming emotions and staying up-to-date with legal matters. It will also teach a player about how to deal with the media representatives.

The foreword

In the foreword of the handbook, Dravid wrote: “As a coach to young cricketers, I have realised that it is important to create an environment that supports and empowers them as they prepare to participate and succeed at sport. During my playing career, I was fortunate to have a number of mentors, who contributed to my success in various ways. In that sense, there is a lot of value in having the awareness to know what information to seek and whom to seek it from.”

Elaborating more on the importance of the handbook, he added “I see this handbook as a valuable resource that can be referred to from time to time. A wide range of topics is covered, which I hope will enable better decision making, especially among younger cricketers.”
