The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been on a stiff stance ever since the International Cricket Council (ICC) has come up with the plan of having a new revenue sharing model. The Indian board has been at the loggerheads with the ICC. At the most recent ICC meeting, the Indian cricket board found no support as the majority of the participant boards opted to go with the new revenue sharing proposal.

Now, the news has surfaced that the Indian team is scheduled to tour West Indies soon after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy. However, some of the BCCI officials want the board to rethink on the tour before they confirm the news. A senior official noted that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) had also voted against Indian board in the ICC meeting.

Hence, it will only be prudent to know the stance of WICB on the current governance of ICC before the Indian board gives the green signal for the series. The official cited that the BCCI had waived off heavy impositions that they had imposed on WICB after the West Indies team had left India midway through the tour in 2014.

“We let the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) go scot-free back in 2014 after they pulled out midway. We claimed damages of USD 42 million (approximately) but that was also waived by Shashank Manohar after he became the BCCI president for the second time. Now they have also voted against us at ICC Board. We need to look at these aspects,” the official quoted as per the quotes in the Indian Express.

Knowing the viewpoint on governance

He further added that Amitabh Chaudhary must have a word with the WICB in this regard sometime soon before giving the clearance for the series.

“There has to be some discussions with Cameron and WICB as to what their viewpoint is on governance. In any case, it’s the WICB which gains if we go. Before the ICC Annual Conference, it would be great if Amitabh speaks to their cricket board,” he conceded.
