BCCI planning for performance-based incentives for the players: Recently financial models were being set up by Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) which focused on performances of the players. Inspired by the model, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning for similar performance-based incentives for the Indian team for every home and away series.

As an initial initiative, a blue print was also being drawn for the purpose on the Board’s financial committee meeting on Wednesday. BCCI’s financial committee has also agreed on the principle of going the corporate way whereby profit sharing will be directly proportional to the Board’s revenue.

As per the sources of the BCCI, the IPL COO, Sundar Raman gave a presentation for the same and also displayed how the method could be activated in the Indian team and how fruitful it is going to be.

The sources from BCCI said, “Till now, BCCI normally gave handsome incentives to cricketers during triumphs in big tournaments like 50-over World Cup, World T20 or ICC Champions Trophy. But from now on, the BCCI is planning to have incentives for each and every series played at home and away.”

For an instance, the players will be given an additional incentive in addition to the match fees if they happen to win matches at home. In case of foreign soils, the amount will shoot up. Also, the best performers of the series will be getting special performance based-incentives. These amounts will be depending upon the strength of the opposition, the kind of playing conditions and the impact which it made onto the matches.

However, an initial presentation was given in the meeting on Wednesday. The things will be further discussed and would likely be finalised on the next meeting of the Board which is scheduled to be held on the 22nd of July.
