BCCI planning honorable exit for Jagmohan Dalmiya: BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya’s ill-health has become a cause of serious concern for the board. There are growing fears among members that the veteran administrator’s age-related illness which has led to him being a passive spectator in board meetings is affecting the working of the board.

A lobby within BCCI is planning to convince Dalmiya to step down from the president’s post. These senior board officials want to create a special post of ‘patron-in-chief’ to give the ailing administrator an “honourable exit”. According to well placed sources a very senior and ‘influential decision maker’ has come up with this suggestion to get the BCCI back on track, and has several backers within the ranks.

This ‘decision maker’ even met the veteran cricket administrator and his son Abhishek recently at a hotel in Kolkata. Abhishek however, informed the official that his father will be healthy and active in the coming days. With board members unhappy with the speed of BCCI’s decision making, the official later suggested the middle path to them.

“There is nothing against Dalmiya. And no one can remove him technically if he doesn’t agree to vacate his post. He has to himself step aside. A lot will depend on how things pan out in the next working committee meeting, a lot will depend on how things pan out in the next working committee meeting. After all, Dalmiya was the one who insisted on creating such a post quite some time ago,” the BCCI sources said.

BCCI vice-president from Assam, Gautam Roy, who attended the last working committee meeting said, “It is very clear, Dalmiya isn’t well.” It was a view supported by Orissa Cricket Association president and former IPL chief Ranjib Biswal who said the BCCI president “wasn’t fit to run the show”.
