The Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Match 18 of IPL 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 9. By virtue of this win, RCB have now registered their third victory of the season, whereas MI are yet to register their first points having suffered a fourth straight defeat.

While Anuj Rawat scored his maiden IPL half-century, all eyes were on Virat Kohli who looked in sublime form as he anchored the RCB chase. At one point not only was he all set to register a splendid 50 but also appeared to take Bangalore past the finish line. Unfortunately, that was not to be and even he could not control his emotions after getting dismissed.

Virat Kohli gutted after being dismissed

Kohli was dismissed in the penultimate over, after scoring 48 runs from 36 deliveries, by youngster Dewald Brevis. His innings included five fours. On the very first delivery of the 19th over, Brevis delivered a tossed-up delivery on the middle as Virat attempted to defend it by moving forward and ended up missing it. He was rapped on the pads and there was a huge appeal from the MI fielders as the on-field umpire raised his finger.

The 33-year-old was not convinced and asked for a review instantly. The UltraEdge showed that the ball did not make any contact with the bat and the ball-tracking showed all three reds due to which the on-field umpire had to stay with the original decision and rule the batter out. The replays looked confusing as they showed a clear deviation from the bat.

Virat Kohli was really angry at this and vented out his frustration while walking back to the dugout. He yelled loudly looking up supposedly to indicate that there was some bat involved and he was given out wrongly. Nonetheless, Dewald Brevis did not have much to celebrate as Glenn Maxwell hit him for two consecutive fours to end the proceedings.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Virat Kohli’s dismissal:
