MS Dhoni is a colossal figure in Indian cricket without a doubt. He made his debut against Bangladesh way back in 2004 and got out for a duck, but from there on he didn’t look back. He scored a sparkling century versus Pakistan and showed the world his ability to dominate quality bowling attacks with ease and authority. His fandom also kept on growing with time.
It’s 2020 and Dhoni isn’t the spring chicken he used to be a few years ago. However, his zeal to succeed in the sport is yet to die down. In July this year, the Jharkhand-born would be turning 39 and is well and truly at the end of his career. In fact, ever since he was run out in the 2019 World Cup final at the Old Trafford, talks of him retiring from cricket have been doing the rounds.
He went on a sabbatical and has missed quite a number of series during this while. Dhoni also went on to serve the Indian Army at the Kashmir valley when the Men in Blue were touring the West Indies for a Test, ODI and T20I series. Dhoni is next expected to make an appearance for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2020 edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
The wait for MS Dhoni’s return continues
But due to the coronavirus outbreak, it’s yet not known when Dhoni will next be stepping on the cricket pitch. The T20 World Cup in Australia is scheduled to be played later this year and many reckon that Dhoni should be a part of the Indian squad for his experience.
In the meantime, the official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded a picture of MS Dhoni, who can be seen, smiling his heart out. The world’s richest cricket board captioned the picture and wrote, “Smile is the way to be,”
