The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to start the process to find the replacement for India head coach Ravi Shastri. Along with him, the contracts of bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar are also expiring in November. The team’s coaching staff will see new faces for the New Zealand series at home which is set to commence only three days after T20 World up ends.

The Indian board is expected to come out with an advertisement and the criteria to apply for the job of Team India’s coaching staff later this week. It is understood that the BCCI wants to bring the new staff on board for the New Zealand series in order to make themselves comfortable before the crucial South Africa at the end of the year.

“The process of hiring the next support staff will start this week. The board is looking at October 14 to come out with the advertisement. The board is keen to bring in the new coach during the New Zealand series so that he gets used to the dressing room before the team leaves for South Africa in the second week of December,” a top BCCI official said while speaking to Times of India.

Big names can apply for the head coach role, says official

According to a few sources, the BCCI has got in touch with VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble for the head coach role. However, the BCCI official stated more big names may apply for the coveted position in the coming days. “These are very early stages. There could be more big names applying for the job. The board will wait for to see who all apply and then decide on pursuing individuals,” the official added.

Moreover, it has been reported that former India cricketer and current bowling coach at the NCA Paras Mhambrey is in the running to be the bowling coach. He has been grooming the bowlers with Rahul Dravid, the NCA head coach, over the last few years.

“It will be great if Mhambrey applies for the job. He knows the system well. But the board will have to figure out who will take care of the U-19 team because there is not much time to prepare or the U-19 World Cup,” the BCCI official said.
