Supreme Court appointed Justice RM Lodha panel had suspended two of the most successful IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for two years for the involvement of important people from the team in the spot-fixing scandal that shook the league in 2013.
Despite being suspended, the board asked the teams to pay the franchise fees for the two years, which is something every franchise has to pay 1/10 (10%) of their bid amount over a period of 10 years amount to continue featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, the board has resolved the issue with the two teams as they decided to relieve them from paying the fees, on the back of the blow from the verdict of the Supreme Court. The franchises had already paid the fees for the first year and the board has decided to repay the amount.
Chennai Super Kings were expected to pay Rs. 73 crore for two years whereas Rajasthan Royals were to pay an amount of Rs. 56 crore for 2 years.
