The brave IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured in Pakistan after his MiG 21 Bison crashed across LOC while chasing and downing a PAF F-16, has been finally returned to India safely by the Pakistani Army via the Wagah Border.

On Wednesday, two Pakistani F-16 infiltrated the Indian airspace and tried to target Indian military establishments near the LOC in Kashmir. Wing Commander Abhinandan along with another MIG 21 immediately engaged the PAF planes, forcing them to retreat. However, Wing Commander Abhinandan’s plane developed technical problems and crashed across LOC and he was captured by the locals, assaulted and handed over to the Pakistani Army.

Later a video was released where Wing Commander Abhinandan was seen saying that the Pakistani Army is treating him well. India started building pressure on Pakistan to send the pilot back without any harm under the Geneva Conventions, to which both India and Pakistan are the signatories.

Finally, Imran Khan in an address to its nation declared that Pakistan will be releasing Wing Commander Abhinandan as a gesture of peace and the day of Friday was decided for his return. According to sources, Pakistan was to bring Abhinandan to the Attari-Wagah Border in the afternoon at 2 pm.

But Pakistan kept delaying the inevitable and finally Wing Commander Abhinandan stepped back onto the Indian soil after all the paperwork was done at around 9 pm. From here, he was bundled into a convoy and taken to Amritsar airport from where he will be taken to Delhi for further debriefing as per protocol.

The whole nation was behind Wing Commander Abhinandan and rallied on social media to put pressure on Pakistan to return him safely to India. Hashtags trended, threads were made and even celebrities tweeted in support of Abhinandan. This included many cricketers and even the BCCI.

Therefore, when Wing Commander Abhinandan came back into India, BCCI welcomed him back with a beautiful message. They posted an image of the Indian blue colored jersey with Wing Commander Abhinandan and no.1 on the back. There was also a message, saying “#WelcomeHomeAbhinandan You rule the skies and you rule our hearts. Your courage and dignity will inspire generations to come 🇮🇳 #TeamIndia.”
