BCCI working group report on the future of CSK and RR in IPL ready: After the verdict of 2013 IPL-spot fixing saga, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had formed a working group to study the Lodha Panel verdict. The group consisting of BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly board’s legal counsel Usha Nath Banerjee, IPL COO Sundar Raman and BCCI’s anti-corruption unit chief Neeraj Kumar compiled all the suggestions from the stakeholders and have prepared their final report. The Working Group held its final meeting in Delhi on Wednesday.
The report will be of paramount importance as it will impact the fate of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the upcoming Indian Premiere League (IPL) seasons. The report will first go to the IPL governing council for ratification. The BCCI’s working committee will meet on August 28 in Kolkata to take a final decision on the matter.
IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla was reported saying, “We have compiled all the suggestions from stakeholders and we will be submitting the final report. There are number of suggestions but we can’t divulge the findings of the meeting.”
TOI quoted a BCCI source saying that, “The eight-team format is suiting IPL best. The governing council will take a call on this before giving suggestions to the working committee.”
As per the sources of another website there have been many suggestions nominated by the working group. The two suspended IPL teams CSK and RR can be handled over to the banks or reliable financial institutions. In order to avoid peculiar legalities the Board is also considering the option of giving the controls of both the suspended teams to reputed law firms.
If both the teams are terminated, then it can lead to various legal difficulties. So the board is pondering over the option of continuing with the two suspended teams. Both the suspended IPL teams can be auctioned as well.
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are facing two-year suspension from the IPL after the Lodha Panel gave its landmark verdict. Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals’ Raj Kundra were banned for life after they were found guilty for involvement in betting. It is notable that Meiyappan is the son-in-law of former BCCI boss N. Srinivasan. Srinivasan also owns the Indian Cements company and is currently the ICC Chairman.
