The entire world has come to a standstill due to the steadily proliferating pandemic that is the novel coronavirus. More than 5000 people have already fallen prey to the virus- which started as flu in the Wuhan city of China last year- and more than 80 countries are grappling with the pandemic. Countries are beginning to isolate themselves by placing restrictions on their borders, as the world continues to grapple with the pandemic.

The world of sports has been the worst affected by the novel virus. Most of the marquee tournaments including La Liga, Premier League, NBA have already been postponed till the unforeseeable future. On the cricketing front, almost every series has been postponed including Road Safety World series, two Asia XI vs World XI encounters, England Test tour of Sri Lanka, ODI rubbers between Australia-New Zealand, India-South Africa, Australia Women tour of South Africa and the T20I series between the Trans-Tasman rivals.

Not only the sporting arena, but almost every facet of life has also been disrupted by the novel Coronavirus. With the entire world heading for a lockdown, England cricketer Ben Duckett gave a hilarious response to Instagram star Katie Bell after she took to Twitter to post two of her pictures, which she asked the users “Guess what i’m thinking about”

Duckett was quick to answer Katie’s query when he wrote: “ Whether or not the season will be affected by the corona virus”

Coming back to the threat posed by the coronavirus, even the Indian Premier League- Cricket’s showpiece event outside of the Internationals- have been grappled with the escalating situation. With the Indian government placing restrictions on the issuance of visas for foreign Internationals, the BCCI have pushed back the start of the tournament (conditions dependent) to April 15, from the original schedule that would have seen the cash-rich league get underway from March 29th.

On Saturday, the BCCI met with the franchise owners to discuss the impact of the virus post which, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed that the 13th edition may well be a truncated one.
