Taking a hat-trick in cricket is always considered a huge feat, but taking four wickets in four balls is a much rare occurrence and has way more value than anything. Mohunlal Club bowler Masum bagged four wickets in four balls in a match against Howrah Union in the NC Chatterjee Trophy on Sunday in Kolkata.

The NC Chatterjee Trophy is a club tournament played in Kolkata. The incident happened in the last over of the first innings, when Masum dismissed Abdul Hadi (32 runs) and Deepta Narayan Adak (38 runs), then went on to get two more wickets. Saikat Panja and Dipanyan Raha were the next two victims who were dismissed on consecutive balls. The four wickets helped Mohunlal Club to restrict Howrah Union for only 160 for 7.

But the four wickets which he got in the last over were not the only wickets which he got. He had also given his team an early breakthrough when he dismissed Md Shahnawaz (17 runs). Masum ended with five wickets, which was his first five-wicket haul and conceded only 13 runs from his four-over spell.

His spell was the only time that went right for his club in the match. Chasing 161, Mohunlal Club slipped to a 46 runs loss as they were bundled out for just 114 runs. Masum got the man of the match award deservingly for his performance. He is the first player to have achieved this feat in this tournament, but he failed to help his team to a victory.

The achievement of taking four wickets in four balls have been done by Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga. Interestingly, the right-arm pacer did that twice in international cricket. He took four in four balls for the first time during the 2007 Cricket World Cup against South Africa. His efforts were not enough to help his team win the match.

Later in his career, he managed to repeat this feat against New Zealand in a T20I match in Pallekele, this time it ended on the victorious side. Another person, who has achieved a similar feat in international cricket is Afghanistan spinner, Rashid Khan. Khan took four wickets in consecutive balls against Ireland in a T20I match in Dehradun in 2019.
