Cricket betting racket was busted in Hyderabad on Friday by the police and apprehended two persons for their alleged involvement in it. They were caught accepting bets over the first ODI match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Dubai. The increasing rackets in the country are becoming the cause of concern as every now and then the police are arresting a gang during every series. Recently, seven bookies were found gambling illegally during the second ODI between India and Australia in Kolkata.

The gentleman’s game has been plagued by increasing betting rackets as every time during the tournament in India betting rackets are busted and the Indian Premier League (IPL) is an easy target for most bookies to make money. Also, there is a possibility that the upcoming Indian series against New Zealand will be targeted by the bookies and the police would be more aware this time.

Police seized Rs 16000 cash

The duo was caught accepting the bets in an apartment in Hyderabad according to the official statement released by the police. The sleuths took the duo into custody yesterday and seized Rs 16,000 in cash, a TV set, laptop and seven cell- phones after raiding an apartment here. “The racket was busted by a team of the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, along with the Bowenpally police,” the statement read.

“The apartment was being used to accept bets over cellphones during the ODI match played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium yesterday. The duo and items seized from the apartment were handed over to the Bowenpally police for further action,” it added. The advent of many T20 leagues across the world has increased the betting rackets in the country and they are widely spread across the country.
