The coming edition of the Big Bash League will be going to be an interesting one in the view of the gradual rise of the Twenty20 format over the last couple of years along with the increase in the number of leagues. The Australian T20 league is the 2nd oldest among the current T20 leagues and the December 19 will witness the start of the 7th edition of BBL which will witness new overseas entries including a couple of from Afghanistan.

All the key stats and numbers to look out ahead of the BBL’s 7th edition:

0 – Number of wins for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL against the Perth Scorchers. They are the only team to not defeat a team in the BBL history. Perth won all the six meetings in this tournament against the Renegades.


20 – Wickets Sydney Sixers’ Sean Abbott bagged in the previous edition of BBL season. Thus, he became the first player to take 20 wickets in a BBL season. He broke the most wickets in a BBL season record of Cameron Gannon and Clint McKay who took 18 wickets each in 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons respectively.


26 – Number of sixes Brisbane Heat’s Chris Lynn hit during the 2016/17 BBL edition in just five matches. He scored 309 runs during the season at an incredible average of 154.5 and an S/R of 177.58 with 17 fours and 26 sixes.


45 – In the last one year, Chris Lynn has hit 45 sixes in only 12 innings he batted in the Twenty20 format. (Starting from December 2016) He scored 604 runs at an average of 175.5 and an S/R of 179.23. Lynn hits a six at an average of 7.49 balls and a boundary every 3.87 balls in this period.


74 – Number of wickets Rashid Khan has picked up in Twenty20 cricket in 2017. He will be representing Adelaide Strikes in this BBL season. Rashid is the leading wicket-taker in the T20 format this year and has the 3rd most number of wickets in a calendar year in this format. Dwayne Bravo bagged 87 wickets while Andrew Russell took 76 wickets during 2016 in the Twenty20s.


1561 – Aaron Finch’s 1561 runs for Melbourne Renegades are the most by any player in BBL for a team. No other player has scored more than 500 BBL runs for the team. Chris Lynn’s 1412 for Brisbane Heat are the 2nd next most in BBL for a team. The 2nd most runs in BBL by a player for Brisbane is less than half of Lynn’s tally.


2068 – Runs Colin Ingram has scored since the start of 2015 in the Twenty20 cricket. He played 68 innings in this period averaging 34.83 and scored at an S/R of 149.93 and also scored three centuries and hit 111 sixes. Till 2014, Ingram made 1750 runs in 79 innings and hit only 60 sixes. The South African left-hander will feature for Adelaide Strikers.
