Big names missing as West Indies name squad for the Test tour down under: West Indies have named an unchanged squad for the tour of Australia later this year.

The 15 men who took on Sri Lanka in October will make the cut to Australia, led by captain Jason Holder and vice-captain Kraigg Brathwaite, with coach Phil Simmons, who having been reinstated by the West Indian cricket board, following his suspension in September.

Central contracts, that are on offer to West Indies players are lowly matched to those offered to players of – India, England, Australia – and this has led to some players prioritising overseas Twenty20 deals ahead of national duties.

Furthermore, the West Indies’ selectors have been in loggerhead with some of those players over various issues.

The West Indies’ team manager for the series will be Richie Richardson. It will be the former captain’s final stint with the West Indian Cricket Team, as immediately afterwards he will become an ICC match referee.

West Indies squad

Jason Holder (captain), Kraigg Brathwaite (vice-captain), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Rajindra Chandrika, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Jomel Warrican.
