The Vijay Merchant Trophy U16 tournament 2017/18 witnessed the match between Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh as the most one-sided contest ever. The former team literally annihilated their opposition by scoring more than 1000 runs while batting as Arunachal team couldn’t even get past the three-figure mark in both their innings. However, the match was won by the hosts by one of the biggest margins in cricket history by an innings and 870 runs.
Recently, there was a match played at the U19 level in Women’s cricket when a team was bowled for a score of just 2 runs and now this game has reached a new low. An absolute no contest between bat and ball is not good for cricket at any level and the Indian board needs to look at the issues in the roots with the need to solve them soon. Though the herculean efforts of the winning teams cannot be understated and need to be praised for their dominating victory.
Batsmen feast on good pitch
The stark difference between Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh U16 teams were on display from the first ball of the match. After inserting the visitors to bat first, the bowlers from Bihar just kept on picking the wickets consistently. Reshu Raj wrecked havoc in the opposition camp and picked seven wickets for just 14 runs in his 10-over spell. As many as six batsmen of Arunachal Pradesh failed to open their account with the highest score being only 34 from Latyir Damin. Bihar bundled them out only for 83 in just 31 overs in the first innings.
In reply, the hosts feasted on a good batting pitch as the trio of Arnav Kishor, Binny and Prakash scored 161, 358 and 220 runs respectively to tire and shock the bowlers. Bihar posted a monumental total of 1007 runs for the loss of only seven wickets and declared with a lead of 924. The second innings was even worse for Arunachal team as they were skittled out for a paltry score of 54 in in less than 34 overs.
Reshu Raj, yet again, scalped six wickets and finished with the match figures of 13/37. He was well assisted by the opening bowler Suraj with 3/11 as Bihar registered one of the biggest victories in the cricket history ever.
