The teaser of Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh-starrer sports drama film ’83 was released on November 26. The biographical film directed by Kabir Khan, and co-produced by Khan, Vishnuvardhan Induri, Deepika Padukone and Sajid Nadiadwala, is based on India’s historic and maiden World Cup triumph – the 1983 World Cup, which the team won under the leadership of Kapil Dev by defeating West Indies.

The film, which was initially set to be released in early 2020, has been postponed multiple times owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, and is now is set to hit the theatres on December 24. The first reschedule had set the release date to be around December 2020, but it had to be delayed in the wake of the then-ongoing second Covid-19 wave in India.

Meanwhile, the 59-second teaser gives a glimpse of Ranveer Singh, playing Kapil Dev in the film, as the video shows the moment when Dev grabbed West Indies great Vivian Richards’ catch in the deep off the bowling of Madan Lal.

Ranveer took to his Instagram account to post the short clip, also revealing that the full trailer of the movie will be out on November 30. “The greatest Glory. 83 RELEASING IN CINEMAS ON 24TH DEC, 2021, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Teaser out now. Trailer out on 30th Nov.#ThisIs83,” read his caption.

Not having to mouth such intense dialogue with that kind of language like we did on three films. It was refreshing. In fact, we had to remind ourselves that ‘this is the same actor that I’ve worked with”.

The film is set to be released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam as Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International and Akkineni Nagarjuna’s Annapurna Studios have collaborated with Reliance Entertainment to present the Tamil and Telugu versions respectively of the film.
