Bowlers with most maiden overs in IPL history

To put a decent defendable score in just 20 overs, batsmen have to keep scoring runs all the time. Batsmen tend to build their innings from the very first ball and this makes every over and every ball important for both the competing sides. A single over accounts for 5% of the totals balls in a T20 game. In a format where dot ball is like a gold dust, the bowler is praised a lot if he manages to bowl a maiden over.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the best teams compete against each other with the best possible squad of amazing players. Having an economy of 6 or below is considered a great spell from a bowler’s point of view but bowling the over of dots is very rarely seen in the IPL.

In the Indian T20 League, bowling six dot balls continuously in a row is not an easy plan to execute. In IPL, most of the maiden overs have been bowled in the first few overs of an inning as the batsman takes time to settle down and the bowler tries to take advantage of that. This is the reason that the top seven players in the all-time list of bowling most maidens in IPL are all fast bowlers.

Indian seamers top the list

In the current list of most maidens bowled by a bowler in IPL, the top 3 positions are seized by the Indian seamers. Out of 3, 2 have retired and one is warming the bench in the Mumbai Indians squad this season. The names being Praveen Kumar, Irfan Pathan, and Dhawal Kulkarni is a great portrayal of Indian bowling dominance in the toughest league of the cricketing world.

The 4th position is sealed by the Sri Lankan pacer, Lasith Malinga followed by Sandeep Sharma in the 5th position. In the top 10, there are only 2 spinners and both of them are from India. One is the sensational leg spinner of all time, Amit Mishra and the other one is the astonishing right-arm off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh. India has always produced great spinners for a very long time and these two masters have proved it yet again.
