Dhaka Platoon started the Bangabandhu BPL with a nine-wicket defeat to table-toppers Rajshahi Royals. However, Mashrafe Mortaza and Co didn’t lose their cool and rolled over the Cumilla Warriors and Sylhet Thunder by 20 and 24 runs respectively. The wins got their net run rate in the positives. They will next play the Chattogram Challengers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

The Dhaka franchise knows the art of making the BPL playoffs and they will be looking to strengthen their position in the top two. The Challengers, captained by Mahmudullah, won’t be an easy proposition though. They have beaten the Sylhet Thunder and Rangpur Rangers without dropping much sweat. Though the Challengers lost to the Khulna Tigers, they haven’t lost any momentum.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Chattogram doesn’t have much for the bowlers. The batters can play their shots on the up. A fairly high-scoring match seems to be in store in the second of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Getting wickets with the new ball will be crucial. The skies will stay clear during the course of the match with the temperature around 22 degrees Celsius. The humidity will mostly be in the 60s.

Chattogram Challengers

The Challengers batting has played a major role in their victories thus far. Imrul Kayes and Chadwick Walton have in excess of 100 runs and both have scored at a strike-rate around the 140 mark. Avishka Fernando hasn’t flattered to deceive and has chipped in with pretty useful knocks.

Chattogram’s bowling has looked a tad indifferent at times. Rubel has been amongst the wickets but needs to take care of the economy rate. Mahmudullah has done his bit with the ball. Nasir Hossain hasn’t gotten a wicket but has been frugal. Kesrick Williams will also play a very important part.

Tamim Iqbal was admitted to the hospital on Monday due to viral fever and it’s not known whether or not he will be fit for the next game. If he misses out, it can be a huge blow for the Platoon as he is their top run-scorer with 110 runs. Mominul Haque may get a chance provided Tamim doesn’t play.

The onus will be on Anamul Haque, who has had scores of 38 and 62, at the top of the order. The likes of Thisara Perera and Laurie Evans have to deliver with the bat as well. Perera has been excellent with the ball though, having picked five wickets. He has gotten good support from Riaz and Mortaza.
