The Rangpur Rangers have gone nowhere in the ongoing Bangabandhu BPL. Mohammad Nabi’s men are placed at the bottom of the points table after four defeats on the trot. The fact that the Rangers have a net run rate of -2.447 won’t be helping them in their quest of qualifying for the playoffs. In their last game, the Khulna Titans thumped them by eight wickets with as many as 45 balls to spare.

Their next match is against the Chattogram Challengers, who have been in exceptional form. They have won five out of their first six matches and are comfortably placed at the top of the points table. In their previous contest against the Cumilla Warriors, the Challengers won by 16 runs after amassing 238 runs. They will now be looking to end the Chattogram leg of the BPL with another win.

Pitch and Conditions

The track at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium hasn’t had much for the bowlers, who have had to depend on change of pace. The batters have played their strokes freely. Moreover, the chasing teams have had a huge advantage. The atmosphere will be on the cloudy side, but with no chances of rain. The temperature will be around 18 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the 80s.

Team Combination

Chattogram Challengers

Liam Plunkett, the England all-rounder, has joined the team and will be available from the next match. Mahmudullah has a hamstring injury and he will be missing the Chattogram leg of the tournament. The good news for the Challengers is that there’s only one game left in Chattogram.

Imrul Kayes will donning the skipper’s hat. As far as action on the field is concerned, their batting is in great form. Kayes, Avishka and Simmons are in red-hot form. Chadwick Walton has also chipped in. Mehedi Hasan Rana, Rubel, Muktar Ali and Kesrick have done a reasonable job with the ball.

Probable XI

Lendl Simmons, Avishka Fernando, Imrul Kayes (C), Chadwick Walton, Nurul Hasan Sohan (wk), Nasir Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Kesrick Williams/Liam Plunkett, Muktar Ali, Rubel Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Rana

Rangpur Rangers

For the Rangers, only Mohammad Naim has shown consistency in the tournament. The left-hander has 152 runs at an average of 78. Mohammad Shahzad blazed away to the half-century against Cumilla Warriors, but couldn’t replicate the same last time. Nabi has been rusty as well with the bat.

Nabi’s numbers with the ball are decent though. In the first four games , the Rangers have used up 18 players in their squad and it depict the travails of the Rangers. Lewis Gregory and Mustafizur Rahman have four wickets each to their name. But they have looked way far from threatening.

Probable XI

Mohammad Shahzad (wk), Mohammad Naim, Cameron Deport, Nadif Chowdhury, Fazle Mahmud, Mohammad Nabi (C), Lewis Gregory, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Arafat Sunny, Mukidul Islam

Probable Top Performers
