The Bangabandhu BPL 2019-20 is set for its third leg at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka where eight matches will be played. In the first of Friday’s doubleheader, Dhaka Platoon and Chattogram Challengers will be locking horns. Dhaka have won their last two games against Cumilla Warriors and Sylhet Thunder. A victory in their next match would take them to the top of the table.

The Challengers were on a four-match winning streak. But Rangpur Rangers halted their surge, beating them by six wickets. With the second-half of the tournament well and truly on its way, teams will be eyeing a spot in the top two. The Challengers can take heart from the fact they beat the Platoon by 16 runs in their last game. On head to head, Dhaka have won four out of five games.

Pitch and Conditions

Eight matches were played in Mirpur in the first leg of the BPL. Out of them, the chasing teams won five times. The pitches back then weren’t absolute belters, but bowlers had to work hard for success. There will be clouds and the sun won’t be there for long. But there are no chances of rain. The temperature will be around the 20 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity in the 50s and 60s.

Dhaka Platoon

The Platoon has tightened their batting in the last couple of games. Tamim Iqbal got a half-century last time and is in good rhythm. He is Dhaka’s leading run-scorer with 204 runs at an average of 51. Anamul Haque Bijoy has done a decent job, having scored 133 runs at a strike-rate of 125.47.

Mahedi Hasan has been their biggest positive after he scored two quickfire fifties in the last two matches. He also has picked up wickets in the powerplay with his slow off-breaks. In bowling, the likes of Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan and Shahid Afridi need to be a little more penetrative.

Chattogram Challengers

Batting has been the Challengers’ stronger point. Chadwick Walton, Imrul Kayes and Avishka Fernando have in excess of 200 runs. The tri has played a key role in their team’s dominance thus far. Lendl Simmons is a vital cog in their setup as well. Nasir Hossain is a bit out of form though.

In bowling, Mehedi Hasan Rana has been their standout performer. The left-armer has picked 13 wickets at an economy of 6.47. He has gotten good support from Rubel Hossain, who has eight scalps. But the rest of the bowling has been a tad lacklustre though it hasn’t created a hurdle.
