The Chattogram Challengers lost their previous game versus the Cumilla Warriors by six wickets. But despite the loss, they are placed in the top-half of the points and are one of the favourites to play the Qualifier 1. Another victory will help them, reclaim their top spot. Their next encounter is against the Khulna Tigers in the first of Saturday’s doubleheader at the Sylhet International Stadium.

The Tigers aren’t in safe shores as of now. Mushfiqur Rahim’s men are placed fourth in the table with 10 points from eight matches. In their last game, Dhaka Platoon beat them by 12 runs. The Challengers won’t be an easy proposition either. But the Tigers can take heart from the fact that in their first match, they beat the Challengers by eight wickets, chasing down 145 in a mere 13.5 overs.

Pitch and Condition

The pitch in Sylhet has been a tad on the slower side. But big shots have also been seen on the deck. In the games played thus far, the team, batting second had a bit of trouble. Though sides have opted to field first, batting first may not be a bad idea. There are chances of rain during game time with the clouds hovering over throughout. The temperature will be around the 23 degrees Celsius mark.

Imrul Kayes missed the last match due to a hamstring strain. There’s no update on his return. But if he does go on to play then the axe may come down on Pinak Ghosh. Nurul Hasan will be the stand-in skipper if Kayes doesn’t make the cut. Earlier, it was learned that Lendl Simmons was set to leave.

But he played the last game and it’s not known whether he has left or not. If Simmons and Kayes don’t play then a lot will depend on Chadwick Walton, who has 274 runs at 45.66. Muktar Ali missed out last time. Zia-ur-Rahman put forth an all-round show and he may retain his spot in the team.

The Tigers have strained a bit with their opening slot. The decision to open with Aminul Islam didn’t work out. Rilee Rossouw remains to be a fulcrum of their batting. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 64 last time around, though it came in a losing cause. He has scored 280 runs at a decent average of 56.

Najibullah Zadran also has the potential to play the big shots. Shamsur Rahman and Robbie Frylinck add depth to the batting. Frylinck is also an important part in the bowling department. Shahidul Islam has 12 wickets, but had an off-day last time. Amir and Shafiul Islam will have to step up as well.
