Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, two of the most popular actors in the Indian film industry, are set to feature in the opening ceremony of the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The tournament is being organised in order to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known as the Father of the Bengal nation.
Hence, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to stage a different BPL as compared to the previous editions. Furthermore, the board also wished for a grand opening ceremony. Salman and Katrina are scheduled to reach Dhaka on Sunday, December 8. The news of their arrival was confirmed by Sheikh Sohel, the interim chairman of the BPL Governing Council.
Star-studded BPL opening ceremony
“We have confirmed the availability of both Salman and Katrina for the opening ceremony. From Bangladesh, we will have famous singer Mamtaz. There are a few other international names on the list, and we are in discussion. We will share the names once confirmed,” Sohel was quoted as saying in Dhaka Tribune. The ceremony will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
As per sources, the BPL committee is also trying to rope in the singing sensations in Arijit Singh and Neha Kakkar. The six-hour long opening ceremony will get underway from 4 PM local time. The price for the tickets will start at Taka 1,000 and will go up to Taka 10,000. The opening match of the BPL will take place on December 11 between Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Thunder.
The extravaganza will continue until January 17 with the Final in Dhaka. Earlier, the tournament was set to start on December 6 with the opening ceremony on December 3, but later that was postponed. There was also a conflict of interest between the BPL Governing Council and the other franchises owing to which the BCB decided to run the tournament without the franchises.
Nazmul Hasan Papon, the president of the BCB, informed the media about the changes in rules and regulations. Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet have sponsors while Cumilla and Rangpur will be sponsored by the BCB. The draft for the season took place on November 17.
