Dhaka Dynamites and Khulna Titans have made contrasting starts to their campaign in this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The Dynamites, led by Shakib Al Hasan, were merciless against Rajshahi Kings and thumped them by 83 runs. The Titans, on the contrary, were decent in their erstwhile encounter against defending champions Rangpur Riders at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

They were clinical for a chunk of the match, but couldn’t hold their nerve in the second half of the run-chase after the opening stand between Paul Stirling and Junaid Siddiqui. Both teams would next lock horns against each other at the same venue. Last time around, the Dynamites got the better of Khulna on both instances and hence, they would well and truly be going into the contest with the upper hand.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in the afternoon, under bright sunlight, has helped the slower bowlers to a significant extent and batsmen have found it extremely difficult to get going. Nevertheless, in the first two matches at the venue, the team batting second eventually ended up winning both the matches, though both of them went down to the last over. Therefore, the teams may opt to bowl first after winning the toss.

Hazratullah Zazai and Sunil Narine would open the batting with Kieron Pollard at number three. Captain Shakib Al Hasan and Andre Russell would also need to step up with the bat in hand. Both would also be key elements with the leather in hand. The batting has depth with Rony Talukdar at number eight. In the bowling department right-arm fast bowler Rubel Hossain clearly holds the trump-card with Shakib.

Shoriful Islam and Ali Khan are the fast bowlers with Zahir Khan and Taijul Islam being the spin bowlers.
